Aracelis Girmay is the winner of a Whiting Award for Poetry. She is the author of three poetry collections: the black maria (BOA Editions, ); Kingdom Animalia (BOA Editions, ), which won the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; and Teeth (Curbstone, ). She is also the author/illustrator of the collage-based picture book Brand: BOA Editions, Ltd. The Black Maria was a Canadian rock band from Toronto. After touring and recording actively between –, the band has gone into a permanent hiatus. History. The Black Maria was formed in , based out of the Greater Toronto Area in Canada.
